Two ice fishermen were rescued Sunday night after a sheet of ice on Lake Erie separated and floated a mile offshore, the Erie County Sheriff’s office said.

A 55-year-old man from Newstead is dead after he was hit by a car Monday evening. The man was struck in the area of 13399 Main Street in Newstead around 6:30 p.m. An ambulance transported him to ECMC where he later died during surgery.
