Lockport’s state legislators have called on the New York attorney general and the state Department of Labor to investigate Candlelight Cabinetry, whose employees were furloughed with scant notice last month and are saying they haven’t been paid and can’t access their benefits.

An assistant principal at Williamsville East High School, who is also the athletic director, was arrested on a DWI charge over the weekend.
Officials said a “property damage accident” occurred and Melissa Spada was subsequently charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and failing to use designated lane.

Fire officials are speaking out about using space heaters in homes after a fire in Buffalo on Monday. Around 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, firefighters were called to 100 Pacific St. in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood. Upon arrival, crews saw flames on the first floor of the home.

A house and garage were destroyed by a late Monday morning fire on East Avenue and Caledonia Street in Newfane.
The fire was reported to sheriff’s dispatchers about 11:40 a.m. Residents of the home at 6124 East Ave. were able to evacuate safely.
