A victim suffered severe second and third-degree burns to his face and upper body in a fire on Ontario Street on Wednesday, the Lockport Fire Department announced. The fire occurred at a high-rise apartment at 45 Ontario Street around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Seven residents stood behind elected officials during the Common Council work session on Wednesday to demonstrate that the back room at city hall was not an appropriate meeting space. Residents gathered to make their point a week after Mayor John Lombardi III opposed the council’s suggestion to move the weekly public meeting to the city hall chambers.

Suspected serial killer Richard Fox, who is believed to be connected to the deaths of three other women in Western New York, has admitted to a fourth murder. The Niagara County District Attorney’s Office announced that Fox has pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of 32-year-old Crystal Curthoys.

The annual February 15 Canalway Challenge is on as of Sunday. The challenge, hosted by the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, has participants pledging to complete 15 miles walking, running, hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing anywhere within the heritage corridor by the end of February.
