Jury selection is set to begin Monday in the trial of a Niagara Falls man accused of gunning down another man in front of a 19th Street convenience store in March 2024. Jalik George, 27, of the Falls, faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting of Thomas Carter, 31.

The Niagara County Board of Elections has closed the books on the results of the 2025 general election. The vote counting on Nov. 4 was plagued by “a technical issue.” A recently completed recount of the election day balloting has allowed the board to certify the 2025 results.

Riverside Academy (PS 208) is closed today after a water pump’s mechanical malfunction at the school caused “a significant amount” of smoke to be released from the school’s boiler system.

An in-development $30 million supportive housing complex in Wheatfield, the Granary Apartments, has received $15 million in state funding that will allow construction to move forward.
