Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Friday that New York State Police, in partnership with the New York State Thruway Authority, seized 140 vehicles and issued 711 tickets over unpaid tolls and fees. Political divide in Niagara Falls is leading to the closure of the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion on Sep. 30. Mike Carella, who has operated the rink for nearly 15 years, says he put in a bid to continue operations at the pavilion and was denied. Mayor Robert Restaino’s administration had a deal in place to have an Entertainment Group take over the facility. However, the city council voted to reject that proposal earlier in the week.
The Chautauqua County Health Department and the Village of Fredonia announced Friday that another boil water order has been issued. According to the Health Department, on Sep. 19, the Village of Fredonia received results from two failing bacteria samples in its distribution system, one of which contained E. coli.
