Two people were shot at Buffalo’s Canalside on Monday night and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The victims are a 23-year-old male who was shot multiple times and taken to the Erie County Medical Center, and a 19-year-old male who was shot once in the leg and taken to Kenmore Mercy.

The Diocese of Buffalo announced on Monday that St. John Vianney School in Orchard Park will officially close.

One person is dead after a collision involving a deer occurred overnight Monday in the Town of Lockport. Officials said a person was riding a motorcycle when they hit a deer, left the road, and then hit a telephone pole overnight on Purdy Road.

A 10-year-old girl was seriously hurt when she was hit on an e-scooter in Niagara Falls late Sunday afternoon. The child was not wearing any protective gear and suffered severe head and leg injuries.

During a Monday press conference at the Niagara Power Project, Gov. Kathy Hochul directed the New York Power Authority to develop and construct a zero-emission advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York to support a reliable and affordable electric grid.

A body was recovered on Sunday by the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team after a male swimmer reportedly went missing at Chautauqua Lake on Saturday. The man was identified as Peter Pizzulo, 63, of Ohio.

A Buffalo man, 29 year old Alphonso Payne, will be spending the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of murdering a federal informant in 2019.

Another round of milling and paving work will begin Monday in Lockport and run through the week. A Facebook post instructs residents not to park on the streets from 5 a.m. until completion.

Niagara Falls fire investigators are looking into the cause of a Friday night fire at a vacant home near the corner of 8th Street and Walnut Avenue.

The Niagara Falls Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire on 8th Street and Walnut Avenue. That fire was reported at a vacant home Friday night just before midnight. Flames covered the entire front of the house and were also visible inside on the first and second floor.Crews were able to put that fire out and cleared the scene just around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, according to Niagara Falls Firefighters Local 714.
Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo was on lockdown for roughly 30 minutes on Saturday afternoon, after a man walked into the building with a gunshot wound. A Buffalo Police spokesperson told 2 On Your Side that a man walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound, adding that the shooting did not happen in the hospital or in the City of Buffalo.
As we are hearing the heat and humidity factors will definitely go up next week, so the state and the electric utility companies are ramping up their operations to deal with it. The New York State Independent System Operator, or ISO, is providing some numbers on what they are expecting with the demand for power.

A boy was rushed to the hospital following an injury while hiking Friday at Chestnut Ridge Park. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office said its dispatch center received a call for help around 5:15 p.m. Friday. They were told that a 10-year-old boy injured his back while sliding down a waterfall along the Eternal Flame Trail at Chestnut Ridge Park.
The Chautauqua Institution is officially opening its doors for its 152nd summer season, launching nine weeks of film screenings, symphony performances, lectures, art exhibitions, comedy shows, and concerts. As the timeless cultural hub along Chautauqua Lake comes alive celebration features Counting Crows, performing at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, in the iconic Amphitheater.

Radioactive waste barred from entering Michigan

While excavation of Manhattan Project era radioactive waste began in August 2024, shipments of that waste have stalled because of an injunction in Michigan. The 191-acre Niagara Falls Storage Site in Lewiston is home to more than 250,000 cubic yards of radioactive waste from the development of the Atomic Bomb in the 1940s. Even though excavation of more than 4,500cu/yd of material began in August 2024, the shipments of that material to a disposal facility in Michigan remain stalled due to an injunction.
New York has proposed regulation changes that inten to modernize hunting practices and improve deer management across the state. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Friday said the new rules would streamline the use and reporting of hunting tags while creating additional opportunities for youth hunters and landowners.

North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec is warning the community of a recent increase in vehicle break-ins happening in the area. The break-ins have been happening in the evening and overnight, Tylec said in a post made to Facebook. He also said that many have had valuable items stolen.

A longtime local firefighter for the Frontier Volunteer Fire Company, Robert Cornelius, is now in the fight of his life after being diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. Now, his firehouse and his family are stepping in to help.

Niagara Falls city administrators are turning their focus as to how an approximately $200 million planned events center adjacent to the Seneca Niagara Casino will be paid for.

Recognizing the connection between diabetes and vision, the Lockport Lions Club is supporting Camp Aspire with a $10,000 donation. The membership’s hope is that the camp is made accessible to local children who otherwise would not be able to participate.

An 11-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding a bike in Jamestown on Tuesday. The accident happened at Willard Street and Kinney Street at 1:30 p.m.
The boy is identified as Daniel Galarza Ramos.

One person was taken into custody after a Main Street stabbing Wednesday in the City of Buffalo. The incident happened around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday at 1364 Main Street.
