The legal battle between the City of Buffalo and the owner of two charred buildings in the Cobblestone District continues. The Supreme Court of the State of New York’s Appellate Division, Fourth Judicial Department has sided with the buildings’ owner, Darryl Carr, allowing him to move forward with his lawsuit.

The 42nd annual fund drive for the Lockport soup kitchen gets underway today. Despite rising costs, this year’s goal is the same as last year’s: $50,000. That’s an attainable goal, Salvation Army Advisory Board chair Brendan Conley observed — the 2024 drive hit the mark whereas the 2023 drive, which had a significantly bigger goal, didn’t come close.

Lockport businesses are gearing up for Small Business Saturday, offering a wide range of products and customer appreciation specials. The holiday shopping event has become intertwined with promotions to buy locally and support downtowns. Last year, spending on Small Business Saturday reached nearly $22 billion.

A 32-year-old inmate at the Niagara County Correctional Facility is facing a felony charge after attacking a corrections officer on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after they were hit by a truck being driven by a man known to them about 11:55 p.m. Sunday. Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies, Miller Hose Fire, and an Olcott ambulance were dispatched to the 3200 block of Lockport Olcott Road for the incident.

A Hamburg man was sentenced for 10-20 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run and a series on several crashes in Tonawanda last year. Mark Whalen, 32, hit and killed 40-year-old Terrence Wyatt while Wyatt was crossing Delaware Street near Benson Street in Tonawanda on Nov. 11, 2024. Whalen drove away from the scene without reporting it to police.

The estate of a Grand Island couple killed in an explosive accident on the Rainbow Bridge the day before Thanksgiving 2023 has filed suit against the manufacturer of their luxury car and the Michigan auto dealership that sold it to them.

A Buffalo man, 35 year old Alexander Weidner, was sentenced after nearly 5,000 images and 400 videos of child pornography were found in his possession in 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Immigration agents have arrested and detained 44 people in raids across Western New York so far this month. At truck stops along the New York Thruway in Angola, Clarence and Corfu, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents conducted “immigration inspections” during a four-day operation that swept up 30 drivers and seven others.

Two brothers are dead and one is in custody following an alleged argument Sunday night, according to New York State Police.
Scot Thompson, 65, of Englewood, Florida, has been charged with two counts of Murder in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 1st Degree.

The University at Buffalo student accused of threatening to “shoot up the school” was in State Supreme Court Monday. According to court documents, witnesses said they overheard the student say, “Shoot up the school tomorrow,” and “Shoot them in the head, and the cops would get here five minutes too late,” on Thursday.

A woman was killed after allegedly being struck by a vehicle in Cheektowaga on Sunday afternoon, near the intersection of Walden Avenue and Alexander Avenue. She’s been identfied as 32-year-old Alexis Navaroli. She was struck by a vehicle and also had gunshots fired in her direction from the driver of the vehicle.Gary Green Jr., 37, has been charged with one count of Murder in the 2nd Degree and Robbery in the 1st Degree.

The North Tonawanda Police Department has made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery. Police report that officers were dispatched to a report of an alleged armed robbery on the 500 block of Oliver Street at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday November 20.

The SPCA Serving Erie County reported that demand for its Pet Food Pantry had nearly tripled as more families struggled to care for their pets. Recently, the need surpassed 60,000 meals monthly-and continued to grow.
