A Niagara County grand jury will now weigh the case against a Buffalo Police officer accused of killing his wife in a domestic violence incident in Sanborn.
Lance L. Woods, 53, of Lewiston, waived his right to a preliminary hearing during a virtual proceeding in Lewiston Town Court on Tuesday afternoon.

A 19-year-old is accused of stabbing his grandmother to death at a home on Parkhurst Boulevard in Tonawanda. Miguel Castro, Jr. allegedly stabbed his 57-year-old grandmother, identified as Anna Moore of Tonawanda, on the 1100 block of Parkhurst around noon on Monday.

Lockport Police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting incident at a Heath Street restaurant, the Classic Grill & Bar about 2:15 a.m. Police say a car returned to the scene with one person who was shot in the back and another person who was shot in the foot

A Buffalo man is facing charges following a shots fired incident at the Tops on Jefferson Avenue on Feb. 7. Allen Belton, 34, has been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Code Blue is in effect tonight through Wednesday morning (Feb. 18) in the city of Lockport due to forecasted overnight below-freezing temperatures, the Niagara County Department of Social Services announced.

Empire State Development (ESD) announced Tuesday that a Canadian company will begin manufacturing in Niagara Falls. According to a spokesperson for ESD, Metal Craft Spinning and Stamping Ltd. will take control of a 24,760-square-foot facility located at 4120 Hyde Park Road.

Two women have been arraigned in connection with the stabbing at the Walden Galleria. Lakeya N. Richerson, 22 and Joshalyn S. Paul, 21, both of Buffalo, were arraigned Saturday in Cheektowaga Town Court. Richerson and Paul are each been charged with three counts of Assault in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

West Seneca town supervisor Gary Dickson is running for New York State Assembly in the 142nd district, he said Monday night.

Murder charges face a Buffalo police officer after Lewiston Police said they found a woman dead inside a home in Sanborn Saturday. The victim is 35-year-old Alexis Skoczylas of Sanborn. 53 year old Lance Woods is charged with one count of second-degree murder.

The driver in an August tour bus crash on I-90 in New York that killed five people and injured dozens more has been charged with manslaughter, according to state police and the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office.

Cheektowaga Police responded to a report of a fight at Walden Galleria that allegedly involved the use of knives. It happened on the mall’s lower level. Police said 22-year-old Lakeya Richerson of Buffalo and 21-year-old Joshalyn Paul of Buffalo allegedly used knives to assault three other women.

Firefighters from Niagara Active Hose Co. responded to the 9700 block of Porter Road around 12:55 p.m. on Sunday for reports of a vehicle fire. On arrival, they located a U.S. Postal Service mail truck with its engine compartment engulfed in flames.

Delaware North group President will run Nationl Park Service

A Western New York resident is being tapped by the Trump Administration to run the National Park Service. Scott Socha is a group president for Delaware North, currently overseeing the company’s resort and parks contracts. He went to St. John Fisher for his undergraduate degree, then got his MBA from the University at Buffalo.

Couple arrest for 207 charges of animal abuse

Two Town of Brant residents are facing hundreds of animal cruelty charges after investigators say more than 200 animals were found living in neglect on their property,. Bonnie and Donald George were arraigned on 207 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance; and obstruction of governmental administration,” according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Development group gives progress report on Seneca Mall site

The group developing the former Seneca Mall site, which has sat largely vacant for decades, is working on moving plans forward in 2026.Benchmark Streamline LLC met Feb. 4 with West Seneca officials to give a progress update on the site. The LLC bought the property in late 2024 after 30 years of stalled progress prompted complaints and calls to action from local residents and officials.

Gas leak causes brief evacuation of three homes

National Fuel confirmed that there was a leak Saturday morning at a natural gas regulator station in Niagara Falls, leading to a brief evacuation of three adjacent homes as crews worked to secure the site. The incident happened near 9320 Lockport Road, at a station that helps monitor and control gas pressure.
