The Buffalo Fire Department responded to a house fire that turned fatal Saturday morning in the Elmwood Village They found the house to be on fire, the fire was contained to the first floor of the structure. Three people in the home were rescued. Two people, a 29-year-old woman and an infant were pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Niagara Falls Police have called off a Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert. According to the Niagara Falls Police Department, the alert was cancelled around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 18

The City of Buffalo and Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon are pursuing legal action to seize the property of the Buffalo Grand Hotel. Scanlon says that the city is using article 19-B of the Real Property Actions and Proceedings Law to acquire the property, citing ongoing neglect following the fire that closed the site in 2021.

Niagara Falls Police are searching for a missing vulnerable adult. William Baughman, 67, was last seen on Friday, October 17, around 1:30 a.m., near 15th Street driving a 2014 gray Nissan sedan, with the license plate LEF-4507. Police say he may be in need of medical attention. Baughman seen wearing a black hat, green hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts are asked to call 911.

According to a press release from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office a 74-year-old woman, identified as Adele M. Sullivan, was driving southbound on Lockport-Olcott Road in Newfane when the vehicle drifted into the northbound lane then off the road. Authorities say Sullivan may have suffered from a medical event, causing the crash.

Arrid conditions continue to take a toll on those who rely on wells in Western New York. Combating the drought while running out of water can be taxing on the body and soul. Lockport Common Council voted to repair its sewer vacuum truck, damaged in an April accident. The city had received $213,000 from the insurance company for the truck and the repair bill was $228,000.The cost of a new model was $524,000.

A 74-year-old woman was driving southbound on Lockport-Olcott Road when the vehicle drifted off the road and into the fencing of Corwin Cemetery. The victim was transported to Lockport Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

A new dementia care center is preparing to open its doors in Lockport, marking the first facility of its kind in Niagara County, as families continue to navigate the challenges of caregiving for loved ones with dementia.

Niagara Falls fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a Thursday morning fire at an auto repair business on 21st Street. City firefighters responded to Len’s Auto Repair at 646 21st St. about 3:55 a.m. Thursday.

The Buffalo Fire Department responded to a report of a boat taking on water around 1:20 p.m. A private boat assisted in the rescue as the water was too shallow for the fire department’s water rescue vessels to respond.

A small property tax cut highlights the proposed 2026 budget in Erie County, county executive Mark Poloncarz said Wednesday. If the proposed budget goes through the rate will be $3.09 per thousand dollars on the assessed value of the house, a decrease from $3.29 in the 2025 budget.

A man is dead after being shot in the head Tuesday night in Buffalo’s Riverside neighborhood. Police say it happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday on Isabelle Street near Laird Avenue.

A Buffalo man, 48 year old Moises Cortijo, Jr has been charged for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting 35 year old David Ortiz Ramos on Busti Avenue this past July.

Boaters were rescued from the Niagara River Wednesday after a sailboat partially capsized. The United States Coast Guard and Buffalo Fire had to bring in a raft because of shallow waters. The boaters were taken to shore at the Erie Basin Marina.

Water levels described as “critically low” in the Ripley Reservoir in Chautauqua County has prompted a State of Emergency, the Chautauqua County Health Department said Wednesday.

A 20-year-old has been charged for an alleged shooting on Joe McCarthy Drive in Amherst last month, according to Amherst police. Keshai Hunter was arrested on Oct. 9 in connection to the incident on the 300 block of Joe McCarthy in the early morning hours of Sept. 24.

A Buffalo woman was given 18 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting in the city’s Fillmore-Leroy neighborhood in 2024. That’s where
Latrice Purdie, 30, shot and killed 39-year-old Akeem Cortez .

Buffalo Police are warning of a new phone scam where scammers are reportedly impersonating Buffalo Police officers.

Parent Network of WNY is accepting applications for its new Family Behavior Support & Advocacy Program to help kids or young adults with a developmental disability. The program will work with families to develop a goal and identify challenging behaviors and other barriers to reaching that goal.

A 20-year-old has been charged for an alleged shooting on Joe McCarthy Drive in Amherst last month. Keshai Hunter was arrested on Oct. 9 in connection to the alleged shooting. Hunter is accused of shooting an unidentified victim on the 300 block of Joe McCarthy in the early morning hours of Sept. 24.

A Taiwan-based rubber company intends to buy the former Sumitomo Rubber plant in Tonawanda that closed last year. Hwa Fong Rubber, a tire-making company, will also make wheel parts, transmissions, chassis and “other components” at the Sheridan Drive facility.

Some New York families have until Oct. 17 to spend their remaining federal Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer funds or the money disappears. The state’s first round of benefits, issued on June 18, expire on Friday.

A Buffalo community is mourning following a deadly house fire that claimed the life of a man. Officials have identified the victim as 71-year-old Randel Warner, who died in a fire that broke out at 112 Rano Street just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The University at Buffalo’s clean energy master plan received a major boost with New York State providing UB $68 million to decarbonize the central utility plant, create energy hubs and thermal energy networks and build geothermal wells.

The Erie County Water Authority is clarifying what’s happening with its water and the complaints that are being filed about its smell and taste. The authority says it’s a common occurrence this time of year and the change is caused by conditions and compounds being produced that can impact odor and taste, but is natural, per ECWA.

Heavy rains last week have again raised concerns about water damage and flooding inside a mausoleum on the grounds of a Niagara Falls cemetery that has been the subject of complaints in recent months. Water once again seeped into the Pieta Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s Cemetery off Pine Avenue on Tuesday, a soggy day punctuated by periods of heavy rain.

Billionaire philanthropist Tom Golisano is expanding his footprint in Buffalo. Golisano, the former owner of the Buffalo Sabres, has purchased the former Buffalo News building from developer Douglas Jemal with plans to use the building for the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship.
