Former Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. CEO and President Henry Wojtaszek’s plan to return to the organization as a member of its board of directors may soon become a reality. Niagara County Legislature Minority Leader Chris Robins, D-Niagara Falls, said he is expecting Republican lawmakers to take the steps needed during tonight’s legislature meeting to appoint Wojtaszek to the OTB board seat vacated last month by the resignation of the county’s long-time representative, Elliott Winter.

A child suffered minor injuries after being struck by a 58 year old unlicensed driver on Chestnut Street on Monday night. Lockport police said the accident occurred about 6:20 p.m. on Chestnut near McCollumn Street when the child ran out in front of the vehicle and was struck.

University at Buffalo President Satish Tripathi is set to step down next July and will return to his faculty role in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences next fall.

Jurors in the more than week-long Joshua Z. Chandler murder trial may hear from the accused killer today. He’s accused of killing another Lockport man outside a bodega at the corner of Locust and Walnut streets.

Oral arguments in the federal case against the May 14 racist mass shooter continued Monday. The defense team for Payton Gendron, the gunman in the shooting at Tops on Jefferson Avenue in May 2022, met prosecutors in federal court Monday in front of judge Lawrence Vilardo, where arguments were made on the use of certain evidence and whether or not the government is impeding the defendant’s 4th amendment right.

A fire at a Clarence residence caused an estimated total of more than $1 million in damages on Monday afternoon. The fire occurred at 8300 Greiner Rd. at about 4pm and was under control by 6:30.

The Lewiston-Porter School District is looking into “concerning” posts made by one of their staff members. District officials say it’s a personnel matter and they won’t go into details.

Absolut Care in Chautauqua County will be closing on Oct. 20, the facility announced in August. Closure of the facility at 26 Cass St. in Westfield will leave 93 people out of work.

Buffalo Police out with new information on Canisius High School’s senior camp out that got out of control. On May 1, around 11:15 p.m., officers responded to the school after receiving multiple reports from neighbors that a large number of juveniles were running around on the football field.
Students had also set up a giant inflatable slide in the middle of the field without permission.

.A former Jericho Road accountant will spend three months in prison after admitting he stole nearly $600,000 from the nonprofit. Prosecutors say 30-year-old Dejan Karlovic submitted fake invoices last year, making them look like resettlement expenses, then paid them off with the agency’s credit cards. Karlovic was also ordered to pay back the full amount, totaling $584,884.99, forfeit a BMW, a pickup truck, and more than $240,000 in cash and accounts.
