Residents in Dunkirk are being reminded of a little-known state law after a parked vehicle was allegedly sideswiped by a city snowplow during routine winter operations. Video from a home security camera appears to show a large snowplow striking a car parked along a snow-covered roadside. Under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, government-operated snowplows generally have immunity from liability for property damage caused during normal snow removal operations.
