Proposed women’s shelter could cause a problem in Marilla

An unusual proposed women’s shelter project is drawing a strong response from town officials in Marilla. Marilla Town Supervisor Earl Gingerich is concerned about a proposal to locate a “rooming house” on Stolle Road in a five bedroom former bed and breakfast. The supervisor says it would actually be a shelter for 10 women who are victims of domestic violence, and he feels that could be extended to victims of human trafficking as well. Said Gingerich, “If this town board approves it, I think we’d have a lot of angry people in this town. It would probably be one of the worst issues that we’d have to deal with.”
