Tonawanda Police will assist ICE agents only if court ordered

The Town of Tonawanda on Friday announced that its police department would assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents “if and only when there is a court order ordering them to do so.” The town added “that has been, and will remain the policy of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department into the foreseeable future.” Sheriff Michael Filicetti talked about the updated policy during a meeting of the Niagara County Legislature, saying the department will now limit cooperation with ICE to cases involving criminal matters.
