Voters in the Lockport-based 12th Legislative District appear to be sticking with Carla Speranza, who defeated her challenger, former legislator Will Collins, in the Tuesday election, based on unofficial results.

State Senator Sean Ryan has been elected mayor of Buffalo, becoming the city’s first newly elected mayor in 20 years. Ryan topped Republican candidate James Gardner and independent candidate Michael Gainer in the general election on Tuesday.

Shawn Lavin has declared victory in the Amherst supervisor election, a promotion from the deputy supervisor role he is currently in.

In Niagara County, unofficial results as of 11 p.m. indicated that Democrat Marcus Wyche had secured the 2nd Ward seat with 421 votes, ahead of Republican opponent Dennis Stachera with 323. In the 3rd Ward, Republican Rowland O’Malley led Joe DiPasquale of the Working Families Party by six votes. Incumbent John Craig, 1st Ward alderman was leading contender Sterling Carroll, a Democrat, by 19 votes.

Republican mayor John White appears to have been unseated by Democrat William Strassburg in the City of Tonawanda.
