A 20-year-old has been charged for an alleged shooting on Joe McCarthy Drive in Amherst last month. Keshai Hunter was arrested on Oct. 9 in connection to the alleged shooting. Hunter is accused of shooting an unidentified victim on the 300 block of Joe McCarthy in the early morning hours of Sept. 24.

A Taiwan-based rubber company intends to buy the former Sumitomo Rubber plant in Tonawanda that closed last year. Hwa Fong Rubber, a tire-making company, will also make wheel parts, transmissions, chassis and “other components” at the Sheridan Drive facility.

Some New York families have until Oct. 17 to spend their remaining federal Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer funds or the money disappears. The state’s first round of benefits, issued on June 18, expire on Friday.

Amherst Police are asking for the public’s help with finding a missing teen. 13-year-old Patience Tucker was last seen at 4 p.m. Monday near Bailey Avenue in the Town of Amherst. She is about 4 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs about 100 pounds, has brown and blonde hair.
