The family of James Cushman, a man shot and killed by Orchard Park Police, is now suing the department and the town. The lawsuit claims officers used excessive force during a mental health call which led to Cushman’s death.

A court hearing aimed at resolving a dispute involving leadership at King Center Charter School was postponed Thursday morning after three of the school’s top administrators were abruptly removed by the institution’s board of trustees in June.

Gabriel Wallace was the first witness called to the stand on Thursday in the murder trial of Joshua Z. Chandler. Chandler, 23, of Lockport, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting death of Rakeem Hamilton.
